Final Scratch

Final Scratch was designed by a group of hackers from Holland in 2001. It lets you play mp3 and wav files using any set of turntables. This is how it works:

You get 2 records, each with a code (similar to SMPTE) on them and a decoder which decodes the code. The normal output of your turntables are connected to the decoder using the normal RCA/Phono leads. A USB cable goes from the decoder to your computer (One cable for each turntable). The final step is the 2 RCA/Phono leads back to mixer. This is how it all works:

From: To:
Code from record. Needle as audio.
Needle as audio. Phono out of turntable as audio.
Phono out of turntable as audio. Decoder decodes the audio to code.
Decoder (The code is a number with a certain range). Computer (reads code and plays that part of the selected mp3/wav file).
Computer plays audio out line outs. Mixer (Using RCA Lead).
The range of the code is so accurate along with the speed of a USB cable that the computer reacts instantaneously so you can scratch without ant delays.
I have seen Richie Hawtin using this live a few times and there is'nt any problems. It is the solution all DJ's have been looking for. It is infinately better than CD Decks (which lets face it are crap bar the Pioneer ones, but it even kicks them out the back door and pisses on them). Now us DJ's can mix using vinyl and can play any tune on our computer. And its extremely easy to put tunes onto your computer.
The Advantages over the Alternative:

1: CD's skip all the time mp3's & wav's don't.

2: No carrying around big boxes and bags of records. Just a computer and 2 records.

3: You dont need to get your tunes/samples/riffs printed onto vinyl to play them at gigs play them direct from the source (your computer).

4: Records get scratched and get crackly when they are old.

5: You can still play your records as normal also if you want (I knew I left something out).

I hear you say "Des how much is this gonna put me back?"

(About 2000 Euro's) plus a 500MHz computer (about 1000 Euro's). The same price as 250 records.

The package consists of the software CD, 2 encoded records, FSIO (no need for 2 sound cards), 2 Top notch slipmats, the appropriate leads (USB, and RCA/Phono), and a pair of 890SA carts with headshells.

Man I should be a sales person (No thanx! I prefer DJ'ing).
